Field Study #2

Today I made a second visit to my field study location! It was such a beautiful day for a field study. Yesterday was the first day of fall, and  I am starting to see some seasonal change at my 30x30. Field Notes Date :  Sunday, September 24, 2023 Time :  2:30-2:55pm Climate Conditions :  On the trail, it was warm, but felt cooler than the actual temperature because the area is very shaded. There was a slight wind but not as much as last time. The skies were blue, very clear, with a few clouds. Temperature :  74℉ Length of Day :  7:06am-8:07pm  (13 hours, 1 minute) Organism Observations :  The first organisms I  saw and heard were bees and mosquitoes all over my spot. The bees were flying from plant to plant and settling on the leaves. The mosquitoes were also flying all over, but unfortunately they seemed more interested in landing on me. I am sure mosquitoes have an important role in the ecosystem, but they can definitely be annoying! I also...

First Visit! Today I visited my location to choose my spot, film my video, create a map, and start my first field study! You can see my video and map in my earlier post. So far, the most difficult part of this project has actually been choosing a 30x30 plot of land to study! My location (a local park with nature trails) is much bigger than 30 square meters, so I had to choose just a small section. That was a little hard because I saw so many interesting things! I saw small birds, monarch butterflies, some smaller butterflies and moths, bees, interesting plants and flowers, and even a fruit tree on one of the trails (it seemed to be some kind of pear tree). I was able to photograph a few of the many bees and butterflies I saw before they flew away! I was excited that I had already seen so much wildlife even before I got to my actual spot! It reminded me of a verse that was  read  in church this morning : "The heavens declare the glory of God ;     the skies procl...

This is a general layout of the area I will be studying. I have labeled some of its most important features below.

Welcome to the blog!

Welcome to my field study for Biology B! I will be studying a plot of land (about 30 square meters) and observing the seasonal change there. Here is a video that will introduce my field study and give you a tour of my spot!
